Chajki

Since 2012 my main band is Chajki (Seaguls). The band currently consists of Sergey Pavlov on guitar, Tania Tiana – bass, keyboard and vocal, and me playing guitar and singing. A lot of the songs we play were from my old Chelyabinsk band Pustue Hlopoty, but the core of our material consists of new songs, composed in the last couple of years.

Spinning Blades

We started this band in 2011 with Lars Kohlman – vocal, guitar, bass, Tania Sokolov – vocal, keyboards, bass, and me on guitar and occasional back vocal. At the end of 2011 we were also joined by a very good drummer Leo Shalman.

We mostly play covers of Radiohead and Blonde Readhead, and some originals. With a couple of exceptions, all songs are in English.

In this band I don't sing much and concentrate on guitar playing

Legends of Chelyabinsk Music project

In the summer of 2010 my old friend from Chelyabinsk (Russia) Roman Gribanov has produced a double CD of Ural's musicians covering songs of two Chelyabinsk's legendary bands Ariel and Rezinovyi Dedushka. I was very honored that he remembered me and offered me to also record a track for this great project, involving such established musicians as Chaif, Oleg Mityaev, Tomas, Vozvraschenie, and many others, including Ariel and Rezinovyj Dedushka themselves. I chose Rezinovyi Dedushka's song Sonya Krivaja. Unfortunately, by the deadline, my version was still pretty raw, so Roman decided to save it by giving it for a remake to a famous Chelyabinsk DJ Kid Digital. Besides Roman and Kid Digital, I want to thank Tania Sokolov for back vocal, and Arthur Nascimento for playing drums. Here is the link to the Legends of Chelyabinsk Music project. Roman has decided to use my old band's name Pustye Hlopoty.

Almost a year later I finished my own version, and here is the result:

Pustye Hlopoty

In 1993-96 in Chelyabinsk, Russia, I was singing and playing guitar in a band Pustye Hlopoty (Useless Troubles).  We played mostly my originals and a lot of our best performances happened at the Chelyabinsk State University's rock club Minautavr.  On average, we were performing once a month -that was a very fun time!  We made some very poor quality home recordings and I hope to be able to re-record them one day.

Yuri Naumov's music

One of my greatest influences in music is Yuri Naumov.  In 1997, I had an honor to meet him in person and organized a series of his concerts at GWU (1997, 98, 99).  In 2011 and 2013 Yuri played unforgettable shows at our house music saloon Chajki & Friends! Stay tuned – we will do it again!
